North-Charleston
is located in southeastern South Carolina in the Charleston statistical metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 97,471, which makes it the 3rd largest city in the state. North Charleston is considered a major industrial and retail center. The city is also home to several museums, including the H.L. Hunley Museum, which is located at the old Naval Base in North Charleston. Among its' many artifacts is a Civil War-era submarine, recovered from the floor of the ocean in August of 2000. Also at the old Navy Yard along the Riverfront in North Charleston are several sculptures of ships and full-size replicas of the Lone Sailor and Homecoming sculptures. North Charleston has several options for outdoor recreation at Folly Beach, Isle of Palms and Kiawah Beachwalker County Park. There are tons of attractions in the area, such as the Old City Market in Charleston which features local artwork, books, baskets, clothing, food and souvenirs. Other places to visit include the South Carolina Aquarium, the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition, Historic Fort Sumter and Mt. Pleasant, and the Historic Village of Summerville. The region around North Charleston is a history lovers' dream with its' historic plantations, old graveyards and Civil War era battlegrounds and museums.

Mid-point, along the coastline of South Carolina, has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild. The area receives a significant amount of rainfall year-round. Summer is the wettest season with almost half the annual precipitation occurring during this time. Thunderstorms are possible in the spring and summer. Winters are short with occasional rain. Snow flurries are possible in the winter, but rare. Hurricanes are a major threat to this area during the summer and early fall. The most notable one in recent history was Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Plenty of warning is generally given to residents prior to hurricanes, giving them time to prepare.
