Johns-Island
is an island on the Intracoastal Waterway, located near the city of Charleston and the resort/residential islands of Kiawah and Seabrook. It's actual location lies between James Island to the east and Wadmalaw Island to the west. There are no hotels or motels located on Johns Island, but rental properties are available. With miles of unspoiled beaches and championship golf and tennis, the Lowcountry barrier islands of South Carolina offer activities for the whole family. More than one thousand homes and villas are scattered along Seabrook Island's beaches, marshes, lakes and golf courses. Also located on Seabrook is an Equestrian Center with miles of riding trails that wind through the lush, semi-tropical environment. Kiawah Island was voted number 3 in the "2003 Conde Naste Reader's Choice Award for Top American Islands." It offers four beautiful award-winning golf courses, a ten-mile bike path that runs the entire length of the island, fishing, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking and charter boat rentals. Guests on Johns Island also enjoy visiting nearby Charleston - a city rich in history and southern culture. Charleston has horse-drawn carriages and gorgeous antebellum mansions, beautiful gardens, restaurants and shopping. Places to visit in Charleston include the Old City Market, the South Carolina Aquarium and the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition.

Mid-point, along the coastline of South Carolina, has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid and winters are mild. The area receives a significant amount of rainfall year-round. Summer is the wettest season with almost half the annual precipitation occurring during this time. Thunderstorms are possible in the spring and summer. Winters are short with occasional rain. Snow flurries are possible in the winter, but rare. Hurricanes are a major threat to this area during the summer and early fall. The most notable one in recent history was Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Plenty of warning is generally given to residents prior to hurricanes, giving them time to prepare.
